educator micro grants / sponsored project grants
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
In response to donors who wish to make an impact on more than a single classroom of students, EPAK launched a Sponsored Projects Grant Program. Since 2007, EPAK has successfully completed 10 projects, putting over $100,000 additional dollars to work in EPA schools.
Our first project was the opening of a newly restored middle school library for Edison McNair Academy. By providing the seed money, project management and several dedicated volunteers, EPAK sparked a collaborative effort over the course of nine months that allowed Edison McNair Academy to revitalize a much-needed resource.
Projects currently in need of funding
- Read Naturally at Brentwood Academy This reading intervention program focuses on fluency in reading. This program would provide assistance to the many 2nd through 5th graders still struggling with fluency and follows a successful model from other Edison charter schools in the state.
- Year Two of For Youth By Youth Positive Behavior Support at Belle Haven Belle Haven would like to continue the successful program it launched in the 2008-2009 school year which has already improved the learning environment at the school. This past year funding was provided by EPAK partner the Christiansen Fund as well as the school itself.
- Junior High Book Room at Cesar Chavez Academy Cesar Chavez would like to create a state-of-the-art book room with interesting texts available at the personal reading levels of each child. These books enhance the reading curriculum with the goal of raising students’ reading ability to at least grade level.
- Collective Roots at Willow School Collective Roots established a hands-on learning environment through a garden project in the 2007-2008 school year. Willow would like to have the organization return to continue science learning through nature.
- NEW TEACHER GRANTS (EPA-wide) EPAK would like to provide a micro grant of up to $300 to each new teacher in Fall 2009 for classroom startup expenses. In neighboring districts, PTAs provide funds automatically for new teachers to create a learning environment that is efficient and stimulating.
EPAK needs your help to fund these projects and to make them a reality. If you would like to make a donation to EPAK in the amount of $5,000 or more toward one of these special projects, please contact Julie Mahowald at 650-949-3547, or email us. Thank you!
